You know me. I love spooky stuff.

I love Psycho.

I like the Bates Motel tv series.

I’m fascinated by abandoned buildings.

And I have an obsession with white.

Well, let me show you the “Bates Motel”, which not only matches all the things I wrote above, but is also an art installation.Β

I have came to know about this building last year, whilst staying here. I just didn’t have the time to come, for some reason, so this time I made sure I would.

The building was close (the gates were closed, not sure if you can usually enter into the small open area), so I only snapped a few photos from the outside, but just being there, made me happy.

From what I have gathered, the Sunset Pacific hotel has been abandoned for a long time, looking sinister and torn.

There were plans to demolish it, but eventually the artistΒ Vincent Lamouroux made it into a project, and turned it into an art installation by painting all white.

The result is great, although I was a bit sad to see that people already started to cover the building with new graffiti…

Either way, it looks really cool, and spotting it on the road, standing out with its tall white palm trees, was very exciting it.

Have you ever heard about this place before?

Wow Marzia! That looks like an awesome place to explore – it’s too bad that it is closed off. I hope in the future that I have the opportunity to travel and explore interesting places such as these!

I love hearing about your adventures on this blog – great work Marzia! πŸ™‚

I love how every detail including the palm tree is painted white. I’ve never seen this instillation but I’ve read an article about it and it seems like an amazing sight.
    Enjoy California! ^_^

There are a few abandoned warehouses in San Francisco similar to the Bates Motel, but none as famous. The white is beautiful – pristine and clean looking despite no reason to be. I love it πŸ™‚

    Hi Mariza!

First of all, I’m so happy that you decided to post today mainly because my birthday is on Wednesday and having you post a few days before is like a present! Thank you!
Second, I’ve actually never heard of the building before. It looks so creepy though which kind of excites me too as I enjoy many things creepy like you do.
Third, your outfit is absolutely gorgeous and I especially love the dress.
I am really enjoying your LA diary and I can’t wait for the next part to come out! I enjoy watching all of your content as I can relate so much with it! You’re so cool and my inspiration!

Hope you have a nice day!

I love the Bates Motel series but I’ll definitely watch Psycho this Saturday!
Thanks Marzia ^-^ we share a common interest in freaky things πŸ‘»

I don’t think that the graffitis are ruining the motel really; it might seem a bit sad at first because it kinda ruins the white aesthetic but when you come to think of it, art that is frozen in time is much less interesting than evolving art.
I mean, that place basically is a white canvas in the city! Art exposed to everyone out of museum doesn’t feel that sacred anymore, exactly because of how close and how reachable it is.
    And I like it! πŸ˜€

If you like quirky places you should check out The Village Underground of Lisbon, which is a residence of multiple artist. I also recommend The Wonder in Paris (where I live!), although this one is going to be destroy before the end of this month. There are great pictures on their Facebook and Instagram if you wanna check it out πŸ™‚

I had heard about a building that had the actual Bates Motel house (the set) on it’s roof as an art exhibit. So I assumed that’s where you had been when I started reading! But I just seacrhed it, and it was in New York and only for the summer 😦 Too bad you can’t go! I love the movie and series soo much ❀

I love abandoned places as well!! In Japan we’ve visited Nara Dreamland, just a month ago. It’s a big abandoned amusement park! We entered the park while they just started with demolishing this beautiful place… I wrote an entire blog on my WordPress with lots of pictures from the park here , I love this abandoned place!! I hope to visit more abandoned places in the future, I love the building with you in the picture!

Marzia!! While you’re in LA I seriously recommend checking out Donut Friend. It’s a vegan donut place and it’s amazing! I forced a couple of friends to come with me last weekend and they’re not vegan but they LOVED the donuts as much as I did! And they have such interesting, unique flavors. Definitely post some pics if you go!

    Have a fun trip,

Also- forgot to mention that I saw your vlog on Little Tokyo today! I don’t know if you saw, but there’s also a restaurant called Kula in Little Tokyo that is a revolving sushi place. It’s really cool, cute and super high-tech. The food is pretty cheap too, but it’s good quality! If you guys have time to go again, I recommend checking out Kula!

A big white creepy elephant! That was my first thought when I saw the pictures, haha! Never heard of it but now you made me feel like it’s the right thing to watch the serie.
I’m enjoying your vlogs very much, but I really like when you write, ther’s always a plus I think. πŸ™‚ Keep it up! Have a nice week! ^.^
