There is a new shop in town!

It’s called Kernel of Hove, and it’s a vegetarian and vegan grocery store.

To be fair, Brighton and Hove have great option for ‘veggie people’: lots of restaurants, products and so on, which is great! But when I got a leaflet from this new place, I got really excited.

I saw it a few weeks ago, right before leaving from Malaysia. I told myself I would buy from here as soon as I got back, but my food poisoning slowed me down. Now that I’m all better, and the weather outside is lovely, I went for a walk and reached the shop!

Because I was walking, and it was my first time in there, I mainly wanted to get an idea of what they sold. I didn’t want to get too much, but I was more than happy to see that it carries some of my favourite brands, and I even discovered some amazing new snacks.

I completely forgot to pick up some fruit from outside, but hey, everything I did get is so good!

This is all, and the things I’m most excited about are:

  • the Kale chips; I have tasted many – most are pretty good, some are terrible, but these… there are the best. I’m tempted to run back to the shop and get more, because trust me, they are so delicious.
  • Vegolino; these vegan chocolate treats are insanely good. I have started buying them from the vegan restaurant in The Lanes I mentioned a few times in here – Loving Hut – but because I don’t live too close to it, I never really had a chance to stuck up on these. Now I do!
  • Honey Halva with almonds; yes. This is everything. It’s been years now that I have enjoyed the taste of halva, and I usually go for the standard vanilla taste, but this… this has both honey and almonds. So good.

I’m so looking forward to eating all this food. haha

Happy September, by the way!

Hey I know Halva! They’re this dessert here in the Middle East and I wasn’t too sure about it because I always thought it was spelt Halwa and most of the ones we get are homemade so no label there! Anyway I totally get what you’re saying and I just want to add that I love Halva too! And it’s new spelling 😁

Happy September, Marzia! I get excited as much as you when I find vegan shops! Here in southern Italy there aren’t many of them! Now I crave those vegolino chocolates so bad! :*

When I see a post about vegan or vegetarian things, I’m curious about it, I didn’t imagine that would be too much variety of vegan products. In my city is not common find groceries stores with this kind of products like in Brighton but, I hope find some of them and taste it (I have a grocery store in mind, but I don’t know at all), is always nice try new things, I think ^^
    Regards and hugs!! ^^

Hi Marzia! It’s great that they’ve made a vegan and vegetarian shop in Brighton! I didn’t know you ate Halva! Its one of my favourite of all time! I usually use it as a bread spread because that is what you mostly do in Iran which is where my family is from (sometimes I just eat it on its own!) I’ve never heard of Vegolino but I’m definitely going to try it! Thank you for making this blog post!

We hardly have anything vegan/ vegetarian in Malaysia so it’s hard for people to be vegetarian/vegan here. Plus, it’s also really pricey. x- x

Also Marzia, do you know this brand called Daiya? They make vegan cheese which I think is pretty cool even tho I’m not vegan. Haha. I saw some other vegan YouTubers talking about it and they seem to really like it. Maybe you can try it out? πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜—

Hello Marzia! I really enjoy reading your blog and I’m glad you are better! 😊 All the food looks yummy! πŸ˜†

You really inspired me to eat healthier! I never rerally liked the fact that I ate a lot of junk food and snacks with tons of sugar that were faaar from natural products, but I never really stopped even though I was gaining a lot more weight because of it. My mom was always buying these seeds to put into my food and all these not very tasty vegetables and gluten free pastry, but I never liked it. So thanks to you I gave it a go, read some articles about what’s healthy and what’s not and why, and now I’d rather have some fruit or some veggie snack over anything else.

What inspired me even more was you turning into a vegeterian! Although I haven’t gotten that far yet. O try to avoid meet as much as I can. I choose vegeterian (or even better vegan) food whenever I have the chance. I am more of a person who’s trying to avoid meet, but not a 100% vegetarian yet. But I see it coming very soon! πŸ˜€

Have a great day Marzia! πŸ™‚

When I saw the title I immediately remembered you singing “groceries, groceries!” to Pewds in LA vlogs. I know it’s random and I dunno why, but that moment was so cute and it got stuck in my head haha.

Awesome! I adore spending time walking round these little veggie stores – they’re becoming increasingly more popular which is amazing for my vegetarian needs as I find it can be hard to get good ingredients and snacks -_-

I loove Kale chips! I was wondering if you’ve tried the ones they sell at Pret a Manger? I personally think they’re great!

    Hi Mrzia, it`s me again!
I just read this and I saw that you bought “Taifun Tofu” πŸ˜‰ The thing is, that this brand is from my hometown and it is honestly the best tofu in the world, trust me! I run for it all the time and now I am so happy you discovered it – I can`t even tell you!!! I didn`t even know you could get their stuff in other countries than Germany (I am from Germany ;)), but now I`m so excited because I really want to move to Brighton for Uni sometime and it seems like the Veggie perspectives there are even better than here! πŸ˜€ (sorry, I`m just so excited right now!)
I have never seen a shop like this before, what a great thing! When I visit Brighton in the future I will definitely have to check it out πŸ˜‰ Thanks so much for sharing this, you once again made my day ❀
    Love, Lisa xxx

i always feel great eating healthy so thanks for these examples this will be quite useful, and if you really want some more kale chips then go, run, go get them, dont feel bad because you will walk there and not drive so i guess you are helping the environment and keeping fit… i guess :/ πŸ˜‰ love you as always thanks so much for everything ❀ ❀

I’m so looking forward to eating all this food… Ehm, me too.

I’m a little late with all your blog posts lately cause i’ve been busy with school but this particular post piqued my interest cause lately I’ve been wanting to go vegetarian but it’s nearly impossible here in my country cause we mostly eat meat especially my family so I kinda have not choice sometimes with the food I eat. I do have some semblance of control so I mostly eat fish and chicken now. I’m so envious of where you live T.T based from your posts and my mum and grandma’s stories about Brighton, it’s like the perfect place for me to live. I simply love all the architecture and the whole vibe of the place. I love all the quirky things I’ve seen pictures of and read about there. Someday me and my best friend plan on living there πŸ™‚ I’m glad that you’re all better now. Hopefully you have a blast in LA~
